The Benefits of Ergonomic Desks

Why are ergonomic desks so important?

Ergonomics is all about making sure there’s a perfect fit between a product, its purpose and the person using it.

If your job is desk-based, then it goes without saying that your desk is at the heart of your workspace. From an ergonomic point of view, the most important aspect is its height! Being able to adjust the height of your desk throughout the day is just as important as ensuring that it’s set at exactly the right height for you.

Simple, quick and top-quality

Ensuring that your desk is set at exactly the right position for you and the task at hand is just as important as being able to adjust its height throughout the day. Having the ability to change your posture from sitting to standing and anywhere in between allows and encourages movement and flexibility.

Sitting all day is not good for us and neither is standing for long periods, which is why adjustable height desks have become such a popular choice for both office-based workers and the increasing number of people now working from home.

Changing your posture throughout the day doesn’t just help to fight fatigue and reduce the risk of back pain and high blood pressure, it also helps prevent to repetitive strain injuries too.

If your desk is too high you may experience straining of the forearms as you type, and a desk that’s too low will encourage you to hunch your shoulders and strain your back.

Standing desk ergonomics

  • Use a mat regardless of flooring, as it supports for your feet and is great to stand on barefoot.

  • Keep your arms at an angle of 90-110 degrees when standing or sitting at a desk.

  • Adjust your monitor height, with the top of the monitor at eye level or slightly below and the bottom tilted slightly closer to you for better neck and head positioning

  • Relax your knees, bending them a little it keeps your leg muscles engaged
  • Add in lots of movement – fidget, sway, march and dance, whatever works for you.
